Twist with Kolo Mee

This is another artwork exhibited at Lov Gallery for the Lov Kuching exhibition.
Again, food is my main inspiration for this painting!

Definition of Kolo Mee (Hokkien to English)
Kolo means Dry
Mee means Noodle

Twist with Kolo Mee by Angelina Bong

Twist with Kolo Mee is an acrylic painting portraying the playful and laidback persona of Kuching indulging in its addictive Kolo Mee, the love of many Kuching people. Just like the other artwork, the background’s symbolic shades are derived from colours often used to depict Kuching and Sarawak, mainly from the hornbill and the Sarawak flag.

Festivals galore enchant the world in meek Kuching,
Travellers from afar fall in love or have a fling,
Still the heart of chaos and worries for both you and me,
Break free from the norm, laugh and dare twist like kolo mee

BTW IT IS ALSO FOR SALE...

If you would like a special, one of a kind artsy gift for a special someone, do consider getting this. Feel free to leave a comment whether or not you wish to purchase :) International delivery is available. Happy Christmas.

Dance with Laksa

This is one of the paintings that I have recently put up for an exhibition at Lov Gallery. The theme of the exhibition was Lov Kuching. What's more inspiring than food in Kuching? So, this one's dedicated for food lovers.

Dance with Laksa by Angelina Bong

This acrylic piece is inspired by one of Kuching’s most popular delicacies, the famous Sarawak Laksa and the love of festivals. Every year, festivals like the ‘Kuching Food Fest’ and the ‘Rainforest World Music Festival’ are celebrated in glory. Dance with Laksa incorporates the love of festivals expressed through a dancing girl into the enjoyment of this exotic dish.

Music and food unites the hearts of Kuching lovers,
No matter if you like breakfasts, lunches or dinners,
Whether you’re a fan of ballet, ngajat or salsa,
Be prepared to feast, dine and have a dance with laksa

BTW IT IS ALSO FOR SALE...

If you would like a unique gift to give as Christmas, do consider this. Leave a comment if you wish to purchase. International delivery available. :) cheers.

Exhibition

I am excited and at the same time, a little worried.

I have just spoken to someone from a gallery and we both agreed that I would try to rush some paintings for an upcoming exhibition to be submitted by next week.

I'm going to put my creative hat on and get to inspiration land. I hope I'll draw enough artsy ideas to start working.

I'm a tiny little bit worried about the deadline because I am rushing something else too but I know I will be all right.

Will keep this blog updated about the exhibition!

Love on Lotus

Love on Lotus by Angelina Bong

Two lovebirds are kissing on a lotus oblivious to the raging lake and strong wind that
makes the plants and flowers swaying at the back. This is a reminder to a married couple
that no matter what storms life throws at their marriage, they will be reminded
of their strong love for each other and stay united, close and calm together.
This is also a painting done for a friend and her future husband.
I hope they'll be happy and stay together for as long as they live.
May God be with them always :)

p/s: I am also currently accepting orders for paintings. Feel free to contact me for paintings or artworks that you might like to buy for yourself or as a gift.

Whimsical Tales of Blurarefly

Whimsical Tales of Blurarefly by Angelina Bong
Here's a painting I have done for a friend. Since she has no particular request, I wanted something to brighten up her days in her house. Inspired again by a butterfly, blurarefly is a rare creature living in a mystical world where everything is happy, cheerful and bright like the colours in the painting.

I hope she will feel happier when she is sad or down when she sees this painting.

FAlling into Winter

FAlling into Winter

It was winter in Perth 2013. I had an awesome reunion with a high school classmate of mine. We have not seen each other probably since the last day of school and I was so happy to bump into her in the airport and what coincidence that we were on the same flight to Perth.

We made plans to meet up and my dear friend and her husband brought me around town. This sweet couple asked me to do a painting for them and I decided to draw my inspiration from our memoirs in Perth.
FAlling into Winter

We were entering winter but the colours of the leaves were still of Fall with lots of amber, orange, brown and reds. I remembered a beautiful big tree with splashes of reds and maroons where we savoured some exotic vegetarian food at this vegetarian café located at Swan Valley. We were visiting the wineries where we also tasted some splendid wines. I guess you could see by now that the tree that I painted was inspired by this picturesque view captured in my head.

The sky was bright and it felt like summer and that was why I had the background in bright colours. It was also a lively day filled with warm conversations as we catch up.

The highlight of our get together in Perth was bumping into Jersey Boys. After having some cocktails and tapas, my friend decided to check out this jazz bar. Ellington Jazz Club was like a cosy little cavern and there was a stage next to a few tables. People were leaving the club and we could see that the live performances just ended. Since we were already in the bar, we thought we might as well sit back and enjoy some drinks. Little did we know that the ‘Jersey Boys’ performers were coming to have a jamming session.
'Jersey Boys' jamming

We had absolutely no clue till someone from the next table asked us, “How did you know the Jersey Boys were coming here?” We didn’t! We sat listening to them taking turns singing and jamming it up! WOW! It was incredible and possibly one of the best live performances I’ve ever encountered. My personal favourite was the pianist. I was so glad that my friends took me there. We were so inspired by them that we decided to watch them perform the actual musical Jersey Boys. I felt like I was watching Frankie Valli serenading us with ‘Can’t Take My eyes Off You.’ I wish I could watch it again but I already had to leave Perth.

And So…..I had to create this imagery of them as the highlight of the painting but with a more casual and fun attire ;)

If you look closely, you can also see the dotted techniques.  I had been to some galleries in Perth and I saw this technique largely used in the aboriginal artworks of Australia and since this is a memoir of Perth, I’ve decided to incorporate some of that into this piece.
Oh…you can also see my friend and her super-tall 2 metres husband at the corner. They’re the ones this painting was meant to be created. I hope my friend and her dear husband likes it and I hope you enjoy it too.

Adios!

Final Fantasy

I have kept this room empty for a while.
I thought I would post a painting I did for a final project during my first year of my Fashion Design Diploma. That was when the love for acrylic sparked.
Here's one entitled Final Fantasy :)
Enjoy.

Angelina Bong's Room of Passion

Hello to all who pass by..

I start this blog to be an archive of some sort. You can call it a room, an album, a gallery, a host or whatever terms you can find. This blog serves as a room to store some of my creative works.

Over the years, I have done numerous sketches, drawings, paintings, crafts from jewellery to handmade bags and even garments. I will post some of it here slowly for those who are interested to witness some of my creations.

Arts has been part of me since I am young. Ever since I was as young as 5 or 6, I would love to lie down on my stomach drawing girls with manga-style eyes (huge eyes with no lids) and giving them various clothes to wear depending on the role they are supposed to be in. You can say I am a dreamer with lots of imaginations and fantasies penned up in my head with characters ready to be made alive through stories and paintings!

I have given away some works to lovers, friends, families and strangers of which I have absolutely no record of so hopefully from now on, this blog-room can keep an image of upcoming works for me.

Today marks the day I start this room filled with passion of mine.

Do bookmark this page for regular updates. I hope you will be inspired, enlightened or at least feel a notch lighter from the wearies of life when you stop and look at my artworks.

Angelina Bong is here to brighten your day :)

God bless.

p/s: Feel free to drop a comment and if you feel inspired to 'hire' me to do a painting or a craft for you, I am here to serve. Just buzz me.

I would like to greet you welcome by leaving you an experimental 'painting' of mine which was done in my first semester of foundation in Arts.
